For years, we’ve been refining how we approach this, combining principles from different disciplines to create something unique. But we realised it was time to give this system a name—something that communicates exactly what we do and why it works. After exploring a few options, we landed on ‘Hybrid`.
Why Hybrid Training?
The word means “a combination of different elements to create something new or improved.” And that’s exactly what we’ve built.
We’ve combined the best of CrossFit, Functional Bodybuilding and Hyrox. The result is a programme that makes you stronger than at a conventional gym, fitter than a runner, and helps you feel and look good.
But Hybrid isn’t just a mashup of random workout styles—it’s a system. Every part is intentionally designed to give you what you need, when you need it:
- Strength-focused days to build muscle
- Endurance sessions to improve fitness
- Recovery built in to keep you progressing
It works because it balances intensity with sustainability, giving you the results you want without sacrificing how you feel day-to-day.
Why These Disciplines?
We come from a CrossFit background, and it’s shaped a lot of what we do. We’ve always loved the focus on functional movements, the community it builds, and the challenge of pushing boundaries. But we also recognised some limitations.
While CrossFit is scalable, its movements demand a high level of strength and mobility, which increases the risk of injury. Training at high intensity all the time, especially in today’s high-stress world, can also lead to burnout. That’s why we’ve kept some of the best parts—like fun, challenging workouts—and balanced them with sessions designed to complement and counteract the stress of high-intensity training.
That’s where functional bodybuilding comes in. Slowing things down, strengthening through a full range of motion, and focusing on controlled tempo movements allow our members to develop strength safely. This method helps protect joints and tissues while building the lean muscle that not only increases performance but also makes you look and feel good—without the nagging pains that can come with always “going hard”.
Finally, we introduced Hyrox-style training a few years ago because it fills an important gap: endurance training in a group setting. It’s a fun way to build fitness and add variety for those who love to run but want to get stronger at the same time.
Who Is Hybrid For?

Hybrid works best when you train at least three times a week, with every session lasting an hour and led by one of our professional coaches. Whether you’re just getting started, training regularly, or have years of experience, Hybrid adapts to meet you where you are.
What Makes Hybrid Different?
Every Hybrid class at Willow Way Fitness is intentionally designed to make training effective for anyone, at any level.
Each session offers three levels:
- Blue: For those new to training or returning after a break, it helps you build confidence and a solid foundation.
- Red: Perfect for those training consistently, it helps you keep progressing and building strength.
- Black: For experienced members, it offers a way to continue improving and challenging yourself.
The reality is: having a big back squat or doing bar muscle-ups isn’t so cool if you’re constantly exhausted at work, nursing a nagging shoulder, or walking down the stairs backwards because your knees are sore. Hybrid works because it’s designed to balance intensity with sustainability, helping you feel good while getting stronger and fitter.
